Asparagus for cancer

My Mom had been taking the full-stalk canned style asparagus that she pureed and she took 4 tablespoons in the morning and 4 tablespoons later in the day. She did this for over a month. She is on chemo pills for Stage 3 lung cancer in the pleural area and her cancer cell count went from 386 down to 125 as of this past week. Her oncologist said she does not need to see him for 3 months.

THE ARTICLE:
Several years ago, I had a man seeking asparagus for a friend who had cancer. He gave me a photocopied copy of an article, entitled,
`Asparagus for cancer’ printed in Cancer News Journal, December 1979.
I will share it here, just as it was shared with me:
‘I am a biochemist, and have specialized in the relation of diet to health for over 50 years..Several years ago, I learned of the discovery of Richard R. Vensal, D.D.S. that asparagus might cure cancer.

Since then, I have worked with him on his project. We have accumulated a number of favorable case histories. Here are a few examples:
Case No. 1, A man with an almost hopeless case of Hodgkin’s disease (cancer of the lymph glands) who was completely incapacitated. Within 1 year of starting the asparagus therapy, his doctors were unable to detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a schedule of strenuous exercise.

Case No. 2, a successful businessman 68 years old who suffered from cancer of the bladder for 16 years. After years of medical treatments, including radiation without improvement, he went on asparagus. Within 3 months, examinations revealed that his bladder tumor had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal.

Case No.. 3, a man who had lung cancer. On March 5th 1971, he was put on the operating table where they found lung cancer so widely spread that it was inoperable. The surgeon sewed him up and declared his case hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the asparagus therapy and immediately started taking it. By August, x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had disappeared..

He is back20at his regular business routine.
Case No. 4, a woman who was troubled for a number of years with skin cancer. She finally developed different skin cancers which were diagnosed by the acting specialist as advanced. Within 3 months after starting on asparagus, her skin specialist said that her skin looked fine and no more skin lesions. This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her kidney disease, which started in 1949. She had over 10 operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disability payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition. She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus.

I was not surprised at this result, as `The elements of materia medica’, edited in 1854 by a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, stated that asparagus was used as a popular remedy for kidney stones. He even referred to experiments, in 1739, on the power of asparagus in dissolving stones. Note the dates!
We would have other case histories but the medical establishment has interfered with our obtaining some of the records. I am therefore appealing to readers to spread this good news and help us to gather a large number of case histories that will overwhelm the medical skeptics about this unbelievably simple and natural remedy.
For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked before using, and therefore canned asparagus is just as good as fresh.

I have corresponded with the two leading canners of asparagus, Giant and Stokely, and I am20satisfied that these brands contain no pesticides or preservatives.
Place the cooked asparagus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree, and store in the refrigerator. Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening.
Patients usually show some improvement in from 2-4 weeks. It can be diluted with water and used as a cold or hot drink.

This suggested dosage is based on present experience, but certainly larger amounts can do no harm and may be needed in some cases.
As a biochemist I am convinced of the old saying that `what cures can prevent’. Based on this theory, my wife and I have been using asparagus puree as a beverage with our meals.
We take 2 tablespoons diluted in water to suit our taste with breakfast and with dinner. I take mine hot and my wife prefers hers cold. For years we have made it a practice to have blood surveys taken as part of our regular checkups.

The last blood survey, taken by a medical doctor who specializes in the nutritional approach to health, showed substantial improvements in all categories over the last one, and we can attribute these improvements to nothing but the asparagus drink…
As a biochemist, I have made an extensive study of all aspects of cancer, and all of the proposed cures.

As a result, I am convinced that asparagus fits in better with the latest theories about cancer. Asparagus contains a good supply of protein called histones, which are believed to be active in controlling cell growth. For that reason, I believe asparagus can be said to contain a substance that I call cell growth normalizer. That accounts for its action on cancer and in acting as a general body tonic.

In any event, regardless of theory, asparagus used as we suggest, is a harmless substance. The FDA cannot prevent you from using it and it may do you much good. It has been reported by the US National Cancer Institute, that asparagus is the highest tested food containing glutathione, which is considered one of the body’s most potent anticarcinogens and antioxidants.

Please spread the news… the most unselfish act one can ever do is paying forward all the kindness one has received, even to the most undeserved person.

  1. I have been taking the asparagus puree fo about a week now and can see a difference. I have skin cancer and it seems the cancer is starting to peel off. Please get back to me as I would like to keep in touch with you. What other case histories have you gotton, and could you share them with me.

    Thanks;

  3. Hi Viv,

I have just been diagnosed with a throat cancer, squamous cell carcinoma, and I’m very happy to have come across your blog.

This may sound like a dumb question but is there any reason not to eat asparagus in it’s whole form?

I haven’t even met with my oncologist yet (don’t even know who it will be at this time) so I’m not sure what treatment I will get but sure don’t see any harm in eating asparagus.

    Thanks, Roger

  4. Hello Roger,
Viv is away in London at the moment on business so I will try to answer your question as best I can.
Firstly let me say that we will be thinking of you through your treatment process and should you need any advise that we are able to give please do not hesitate to get in touch. Sometimes it is just good to let out your feelings and know that there is someone there listening.
The reason for the asparagus being liquidized is because in a table spoon you get more asparagus. If you eat them individually you would have to eat a lot of them and soon you would get tired of the effort it took. The liquidized product also goes down easier and is absorbed more rapidly into the systerm.
Your spirit sounds strong so you are more than half way there.
    Best
    Avril

  5. Hi Viv and others,
Thankyou for your site , my father also has just been diagnosed with
throat cancer this week.Unfortunately aggressive treatment is not recommended
due to his age and condition and so he is about to start palliative radiation treatment in a couple of weeks.
So I guess Im trying to educate myself as best I can to help him over the next few months. It seems that from much reading, the diet with vegetables / fruit and juices etc is pretty important so I will get a juicer / processor tomorrow.
One of the things Im looking for is any tips from cancer patients on how best to help my father , the things to be aware of, the ways in which I can help with the effects of the radiation etc.
Once again thanks for your site and the opportunity to say g’day.

  6. WOW! Isn’t that absurd! This morning when I checked my email I recieved this information about asparagus. Somehow I came across your website and found the same information about asparagus… How often does something like that happen?
I think somebody is trying to tell me something. I have just been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma. The kind that spreads throughout the body. Right now there’s a spot in my one lung and a swollen lymph node right about on my arota.
I just found out today about eating asparagus for cancer.. Viv, Have you experienced eating it yourself? I seen the same letter but no personal information on your diary if you’ve been on this asparagus diet too or unless I missed it somewhere.
Thanks for posting your diary and events.. I enjoyed reading it and could feel for you through all your past experience. Life is fragile and we take soo many things for granted. , Then we come to learn to appreciate more, like the little things in life. Hope you keep your site posted for others to find.
    Thanks again! Debra C
I forwarded the email I recieved about asparagus over to my dad who is 85 and grows asparagus in his little garden. That is So Odd, that I came across the information twice in one day! And I wasn’t even searching for it!

  7. thanks for your site, my father passed away on the 20th april, there was nothing that could be done but he passed away with pnemonia so it was merciful

  8. Hi my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer and it has spread to hes limpnotes, they cant do anthing for him, he had the palliative radiation treatment a couple of weeks ago, is there anything else to do for him,

  9. I am using the “asparagus cure” and would appreciate more information (email or website, etc) on both the biochemist, who specializes in the relation of diet to health for over 50 years and on Richard R. Vensal, D.D.S.

Any URL or other info on the Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, who stated that asparagus was used as a popular remedy for kidney stones? Or his reference to the experiments, in 1739, on the power of asparagus in dissolving stones?

Thanking you in advance for your anticipated response.

Your friend in Hope & Health,

  10. My friend has stage 4 throat cancer and in the process of having his chemo and radiation at Jefferson hospital in Philadelphia, great hospital, great doctors but he is on feeding tubes now because of weight loss, dehydration, nausea, etc. is it too soon to suggest this?
    Thank you

  13. I had a skin cancer on the outside of my nose up by my eye; deep indention, purple color, raw pain inside my nose and nose bleeds. I had it for several years and it kept getting worse and worse. Last summer (July) I started the asparagus 4 Table spoons morning and 4 tablespoons at night. As the article says, it doesn’t matter whether it’s cooked or canned. I would cook some and add a can of processed into a blender. I kept some in a jar in the refrigerator at all times right there in front at eye level to remind me to take it every time I opened the refrigerator door. Took it faithfully morning and night for at least three months straight. The cancer began to improve. It kept getting better and better. The nose bleeds stopped and the sore inside my nose healed. Today it is gone completely. The indention up by my eye began to return to normal skin color and today the dent is barely visible. The color is normal. You can barely tell it was ever there. After taking it for three months faithfully morning and night, I began taking it only a couple of times a week. Now I just eat it regularly (not blended) at least once a week. I am a firm beleiver in this. Snoops and Urban Legends and Skeptoid can try to debunk this claim. All I know is that it worked for me and I thank God that it did. It’s worth a try, but you have to take it faithfully. Good luck and God bless.

  14. hi just to let people know i have stage 4 cancer. Esophageal cancer, stomach, liver and Lymph Node Cancer. I was diagnosed on May 17th, 2011. I started with the asparagus puree with in a week. The doctor told me not to take it will i was on chemo. So after 2 months and 3 chemo sessions i’ve reduced the tumors by 50%. The medical staff was elated at my progress. I asked the doctor how that ranked for my progress, he said it was very good results. He also said the stomach cancer does not have this kind of response to chemo.I am very happy with my results and will continue to take my asparagus puree for life….

  15. A favorite receipe is asparagus, leeks and garlic boiled in water till tender.
Take off stove. Add miso ( I prefer the white) blend using a hand blender till smooth. I then add Greek yogurt and buttermilk, hand blend, and salt Andorra pepper to taste. This it drunk as a cold soup.

I hope this can offer variety to the mix.

  16. I recently had a tremendously sore throat from smoking. After randomly eating asparagus one night, I IMMEDIATELY had relief from the burning sensation in my throat. Which lead to a little poking around and stumbling upon this site. Thanks for the info! Eat more asparagus!!!
